Masdar City

Masdar City is actually a project organized by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (ADFEC). It was established in April 2006. Masdar is a talented company advancing the development, commercialization and use of renewable energy solutions and clean technologies. Masdar integrates the full renewable and clean technology lifecycle from research to commercial deployment with the aim of creating scalable clean energy solutions. Masdar works with global partners and institutions to integrate new research with proven technologies to produce efficient systems and processes that can be replicated globally.

Masdar builds on Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global energy player, with an aim to develop renewable energy and low-carbon technologies at a global level, whilst contributing toward the UAE’s economic diversification through the development of knowledge based clean energy sector in the UAE. It seeks to be a leading renewable energy and clean technology player by providing a test bed for the world to develop commercially viable, sustainable energy solutions. It aims also to have a zero carbon, zero waste, and fossil fuel free. The Masdar Power comes through two mutual investment strategies
; the unit also helps power supply companies to add more renewable energy to their generation combination and provides clean technology companies with expertise and capital  growth.
In conclusion, Masdar will be the first city which uses only clean technology or clean renewable resources. This unit makes direct investments in individual utility scale projects in all areas of renewable energy and sustainability. For example, it focuses on the solar, wind, and hopefully on the future nuclear energy.

Solar Energy

Solar energy can be used to save time, energy, and most importantly money. There are many uses of solar energy and I am going to mention three of them; first of all pool heating then hot water, and electricity for remote locations. Between these three practical uses, one of them is the most popular and that is the solar pool heating because it extends the swimming pool season from May through November because it controls the heat in general. The best type of pool heater collectors are the rubber mat type and the reason is so simple: it survives for a very long time. Second of those comes the solar water heating and people use it to heat the water for baths, tubs, and dish washing and the return of this investment is to save some cash because you are not using electricity and there are many systems that can be installed according to the house owner like the solar powered pump, and it is a closed –loop system that prevents freezing. The last use I mentioned is the solar power generation and they convert the sun radiation to electricity and it has three main advantages; first, free inexhaustible power, simplicity, and its maintenance isn’t expensive. These three uses are mainly used by the Floridians, simply because the electric power usage over there is very expensive and they are trying to avoid that by using some of the solar energy. Solar energy gets sun light radiation to the solar panel at first then through the solar power generation and that converts the sun's radiation to electricity and that's how they save money, by getting their own electricity convertor.

Professor Hedley's Road Trip

About thirty years ago, Hedley with his wife and their elder daughter visited the Niah caves in Sarawak, in East Malaysia. They traveled by car, large ferry and a small boat.
Their journey started from Bandar Seri Begawan the capital of Brunei and they drove to the border of Sarawak. They set off early morning and reached their destination by the sunset. They crossed two large rivers by ferry. They stopped in Miri for lunch and then continued to Niah a small river township. Deep inside the caves , they saw men climbing poles in order to scrape birds nests off the roof of the caves. After this whole exciting day, they were exhausted and needed some rest. So, they hired a small boat and sailed upriver to a small government rest house. They returned the next day , and their luck wasn’t at its best that time because he damaged his car badly that caused his reverse gear to be stuck.
